On his Toes

...

Although Robb is able to walk in a fairly normal heel-to-toe manner when he's chest-deep in water, his motor neurons still aren't sending enough information to allow him to support his weight with the front part of his feet.

Because Robb supports his weight on his heels when he walks, he has completely lost the callouses on the pads of his feet.

Alas! His second career as a dancer with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo will have to wait until his recovery has progressed further.

hehe

LIAM, on the other hand could join the group immediately. Here's a quote from his very first report card, which arrived in the mail yesterday:
"Liam has significantly reduced his walking on his toes - please continue to encourage him."

Maybe Robb can give him lessons in hell-first walking? As you know, I'm not the best model for this.

oops - that was HEEL-first walking. Although the visual images for HELL-first walking are amusing me a great deal at the moment.

Oh, I dunno. I think "hell-first" walking is right on the money.

And then there's my youngest son (almost 5), who has been able to walk on his toe knuckles since shortly after he learned to walk regularly. On both feet. On tile. Up stairs and down. He can run on them, too. It's like he makes fists with his feet and walks on the back of them. I don't know if he's got a future with the New York Ballet, or if he'll have bunions by age twelve, but it's pretty incredible to see. I have photos somewhere....

Oh...my...God....

If I ever have to see Robb posing in a Ballerina outfit again, it will be too soon.

Lately I am doing a lot of lifting of things and dropping of things, ocassionally onto my toes. I now have too very large black toenails. I was glad that my toenails didn't fall off for Christmas, I guess I got what I wanted for the holidays!

It got up to 70 degrees here last week, and today we got snow. Are you guys still wet out in California?

Oh, too bad! But when the trocs are in town, buy tickets for both of you and sit in the audience anyhow. We saw them in Santa Rosa a few months ago, and they are amazing fun. You would have especially enjoyed Swan Lake and its bird-y feel!

I'm sooooooooo olllllld that I remember the first troupe, way back when. (Lotta replacements by now.) Just reading the playbill was worth a day's worth of laughs.

A little off topic, it's said there is an increase in toe walking in children due to the "jumpers" that sit too high for the children in them. Children should be bouncing off of feet flat on the ground, not their toes that are the only part of their feet to touch the ground. This causes shortened Achilles tendons. I told this to a friend re: her son. She responded with, "the jumper is too loud if he's low enough to be flat footed." Now I know what's important for when I have my child. *drip, drip, drip*
