A Delightful Interaction with a Wild Bird
...
Some of our local jays have become quite comfortable around me and Robb. I love how these two are checking each other out. (Sorry about that unflattering under-the-chin camera angle, Robb!)
Step down, please. Your peanut shards await. How do you like our work table? It's made of salvaged cabinet doors, and a wooden shipping crate we found in the crawlspace under our house.
There's something so insanely wonderful about being touched on the hand by a wild animal.
You can see the intelligence in those eyes. We're honored to have earned your trust, Western Scrub Jay.

At least we're not feeding them candy, right?

We're having a blast watching all sorts of birds visit our platform and thistle feeders!

I'm on a sort of perpetual safari in my own back yard. The camera is never far from reach.
I'm such a nerd.
Mousie -- The jays are indeed bullies. But perhaps you could say that they "fiercely defend their territory." Mine are feeding little ones, and they're not afraid to get right in the a cat's face.

I'm awash with envy!
