The photo isn't loading for me, but I gather from the comments that something good happened, I'm guessing something related to trying to buy the house. I'm happy for you, whatever it is. Big hugs.

What a HUGE day for you both!! You'll look back on it and realize that this was a turning point in your lives. It certainly was for us back in 1978! Congrats!

WooHoo!!! I'm so happy for you both. Such an accomplishment. ::hugs:: and Congrats!
Congrats, it is a very exciting and daunting moment, we bought our first in March/April. Get to know your local Home Depot/Lowes/home center. I don't know if they have them in CA, but check for a Habitat for Humanity Restore in your area.

WWWOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

You guys get ready to be gloriously busy, filthy and happy!!

Find a good local laundromat, cause you guys are going to be filthy, filthy, filthy. INSIST on gift cards to hardware stores as you will see the inside of them every other day for 6 months. (I'm not kidding).

I have somewhere around here a catalogue that specializes in replacement parts of metalwork - hinges, lamps, lights for the arts and crafts movement homes- and I dont have a clue where I put that catalogue. But I'll look them up online for you.

One very important thing for you guys to know before hand- it is very possible that you will find what ever you are looking for for free or cheap- haunt Craigs list and such online sites- constantly. Be careful and look around- consider what you need IMMEDIATELY... and what you can live without till it comes on sale. End of season sales are my favorite.

Its possible that you may even be able to do some thing in trade to get what you want for your house (murals, anyone?) from someone else who has what you want, since money is tight everywhere. I do believe I shoveled poop for an afternoon to get 1800's solid and awesome wooden barrels for free. It was worth every bit of stink I experienced.

Gary says to tell you it's good in a way you don't have a kid, (like us) cause this house will suck your money out of you and become your "child'. It's sort of true, actually!

Do you have a Kohl's department store near you? We both do some part time work for them here in PA, and they have good stuff for cheap. I usually want artistic handmade stuff for my own place, but every once in awhile I need a rug or something that doenst need to be fancy. I will send you a gift card and you will get what ever you need. Budget yourself- say to yourself- Ok, I'm only spending x dollars this week/month on the house, and stick to it if you can.

We had new shades put in our windows when the house was empty for 6 months when we were getting it worked on. (so no looky-loos would look in big open windows and see our tools and steal them.) When we moved in we got different stuff, and took the still new-ish blinds and donated then as a tax write off to the local salvation army. You may find you can do that with many things. Maybe there is a light fixture that is origonal to the house, that doesnt pass inspection, take it out and sell it to a collector in arts and crafts houses, etc. Get the picture?

Learn from me, and have a great time!

Congrats- it was worth all the effort and agravation- Have fun loving your new house. Seriously consider having your pipes looked at since old pipes suck more than you can imagine.

What is your new address and when can we start sending you stuff there?

I do not know of a more deserving couple to have this FINALLY fall together. Your patience has been tried, but probably will not be the first time in this venture. You both are probably so relieved that this part is done and now on to all the wonderful ideas and plans you can bring to fruition. Many congrats to you and you have a whole letterboxing community doing the happy dance on your behalf. Good things do come to good people! You two are proof of that!

Best wishes, ok, enough celebrating, you have tons to do! Just pace yourselves!
