Hang in there, Bear!
...
Since Robb's accident, I've been really squeamish about stories that involve falling. Movies with lots of stunt falls became almost unwatchable for me. I had to turn off that new King Kong, because it freaked me out so badly.
I was delighted by the happy outcome of the story of the bear who was rescued after being spooked by traffic and jumping from a bridge in Truckee California.
Initially, officials thought there was nothing that could be done to help this animal, but when they returned the morning after it fell, and found it sleeping on the concrete girders under the bridge, they decided to take action.
They rigged a net.
Darted the bear with a sedative, and when it conked out, they poked it with a long pole until it fell into the net.
Maybe this is a normal occurrence in California, but I found this story completely enchanting.

"What do we do now, Fred?"
"I dunno. Why don't we poke it with a stick."
