The Toes...

There are a few things to say on the subject of Robb's toes.

For the first time today, he was able to wiggle the three outer toes on either feet. Up until now, he was not able to move these toes at all.

Robb's toenails have not grown since the accident. I asked the nurses about this tonight, and they were totally perplexed. Robb has lost a good deal of weight while at the hospital, and hasn't been eating a diet as high in protein as he would at home. Is his body re-allocating resources? We're mystified.

Robb's feet still feel cold all the time. So, I'm going to have to bite the bullet, and learn how to kit socks. Any thoughts, oh knitter friends of mine?

Thoughts on socks? of course! I recommend starting with Nancy Bush's "Folk Socks" because it gives good general instructions for several styles of heals and toes. It really de-constructs the sock for you. If you were doing really heavy sweater weight yarn socks you could probably bang a pair out in two weeks of free time. Otherwise I'd say use the machine washable wool/nylon sock yarn--there's tons out there. Let me know if you get stuck!

I've got a great easy pattern done on size five that use worsted weight. I'll email it to you.

ooh ooh!

Do the two circulars method. it totally rocks. much easier to carry about than the 5 sticks crazy method.

i think it's in the book called 'socks soar on 2 circulars' or something like that...

and i think you can even do both socks simultaneously, though that sounds a bit crazymaking to me...
