Comfy

...

I've mentioned before that Robb is currently unable to sit comfortably for more than about twenty minutes. After sitting that long, the pressure on his spine is too much, and he has to find another position. Usually he lays down, but even then, he has to keep switching his positioning.

This has made spending time with him at home challenging. If I want to be with Robb, I have to adapt myself to his Migratory Routes, and for whatever reason, I'm always out of sync with his peregrinations. We never seem to be in the same place at the same time.

As a solution to this, I bought a crazy transforming couch. Robb could recline his half of the sofa, and kick back, while I remained seated. Additionally, we weren't burdened with a gigantic, expensive, hideously ugly Lazy-Boy recliner. Both Robb and I object to these on aesthetic grounds, and as it turns out, they're actually not comfortable for him, either.

Of course, getting this couch up the stairs proved to be a bit of a challenge. I had originally had it delivered to Ashley, so she could re-upholster the cushions. Seemed like a good idea, until we realized that the cushions were slip-covered, and I could have had the furniture store drag the sofa up the stairs to my apartment.

My co-workers kindly brought the sofa from Ashley's props shop to our scene shop, where it languished during the rainy season, and my bout with hepatitis. Finally, we got our act together, and I cajoled my amazingly kind colleagues into schlepping this beast up our stairs. The batch of home-brewed beer was a good incentive, too!

It took quite a bit of head-scratching to put this sofa together, because it does all sorts of tricks. The backrest cranks down (like a lawn-chair) to form a bed. And the arm rests pivot around to become ottoman foot rests. Crazy! (You an see ET in the foreground using the couch as a "normal" sofa, while Stephanie reclines at the other end.)

When my darling co-workers went home, Robb and I had dinner, and settled down for a comfy evening, spent in the same room. What a novelty! I envisioned an evening of intimate conversation (Robb, I suspect was more interested in an orgy of Doctor Who watching).

What did we end up doing? Well, I have no idea how Robb spent his evening, because I promptly conked out on the couch, where I slept until 2:30 in the morning.

It is clearly a very comfy couch!

Yea! I never thought I'd say this to you guys, but here's to becoming couch potatoes ( at least for a little while)!

I have to laugh at the picture... after all that Robb is delegated to the rocking chair. He does not even get to sit on his own couch! Ha =o)

Cheers!

Nice! Where did you find such a nice piece of furniture? I'm in the market fror something more comfortable than my ten year-old inner-spring futon couch...we have outgrown dorm furniture...

We bought this at a local store called, I think, The Futon Store.

I'm not sure how "grown up" this thing really is!

May your comfortable new couch collect cat hair for a very very long time!
