East Coast Work Ethic

Eurydice

Annalisa used this phrase in her recent comment, and it seemed like a good theme for tonight.

I remember hearing that phrase a lot when I moved out to California, and I must admit that it really baffled me. Were Californians really a bunch of lazy dreamers who would rather be hiking than working? Were New Yorkers exceptional work-a-holics? I really can't comment on this.

I do know that I'm going to be working eleven hour days, probably without a day off, except for Erica and Chris' wedding.

I guess I'll try to combine an East and West Coast sensibility, and enjoy the nature that I can see from my hotel's parking lot.

Are you trying to say us Californians are lazy?? I'd write more, but it sounds like a lot of work... maybe later...

Work ethic? Those two words do not belong in the same sentence! So yeah, we're lazy... who says lazy like is a bad thing??? The sofa beckons...

I guess that puts us *Mid-America* folks....well..in the middle.

I gotta hurry up and get this finished so I can go kick back.

Yes, us east coast chicks are workaholic freaks...but we party just as hard too.

I'll try to give you all the free time I can.

Lisa-you are near one of my favorite sites--if you take the bridge over to Tarrytown you can see where the Legend of Sleepy Hollow began. Also, when you take the bridge back over to Nyack, do it in early twilight hours, because the view is truly beautiful to see when it's all lit up. My family and I go through that area on the way to a vacation resort just north of the Poconos (Woodloch Pines). I hope you have a couple of hours a day to take in some sites and some history. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your sets and your surroundings.
Robb--I hope you're faring well. I think the timing of your being able to drive once more and Lisa's trip were cosmically aligned :)
I saw that Paul wrote to Lisa...is that your 'little brother', Paul? Jog his memory a bit and tell him I said 'hello'.
I chuckled with the comments about if you fall do it well, but seriously...When I was overdue with my second daughter I fell and dislocated my knee. My daughter Ali was only 17 months old and couldn't really do much as I lay on the floor with my kneecap pointing off to the side of my leg. From that point on, I always keep a house phone nearby. If yours has a clip like mine, fasten it to your pants so if you do take a 'graceful' spill, you can call someone.
Take care, both of you!!!

Hey, all I can say is that a friend of mine from San Fransisco told me it was typical for locals to take a month off work when the surfing was good. And this was a college professor, so what can I say, except "Holy Riptide, Batman!"
It blew my mind when she told me this, even more when it turned out to be true. I always figured she had the right idea about living life, by the way.

By the way, we are busy painting a huse, and nothing is a better incentive to keep working than to trip over boxes for FOUR WEEKS NOW and wake up bruised. Wish I could find a paint to match the pretty purple of my legs.

Go to NY and work all you can, and if someone makes a comment about your output, just discover your own inner "New Yorker" and snarl something rude and profane at them. I'm really, really good at that.

PS- Nature in NY are the big rats, dummy. And if there is any other nature around, the rats eat it.
