Do More - Get More

...

It doesn't sound all that exciting but everyday activities like doing chores around the house and running errands have lately become the focus of my loftiest ambitions. As my physical capabilities increase (I can stand up for longer, bend deeper, lift more...) I'm finding that the real challenge now for me is budgeting my energy level. What this generally translates into is "choosing my battles."

In the past, as with most people, I would look at what needed to be done and then figure out what could be accomplished in the time allotted. Now, for me, it's no longer an issue of time management but activity management. I'm beginning to learn the equation: X amount of activity equals x amount of muscle fatigue and spasticity resulting in ever-diminishing amounts of time to accomplish any task. It's a cruel calculus. In the course of a day I can walk down to the store and carry something back or go to the therapy center and work-out-- but not both. I can spend the afternoon sitting up at the computer, doing the dishes, vacuuming the floor or taking out the trash-- pick one or two.

I am getting used to it though. It limits my choices but if I make simplicity and economy my goal, I will never be disappointed.

Good for you!!! As far as walking to the store or going for therapy....how much interchange is there is those activities? Maybe it's a fair trade. Ya don't have to do it all in a day.....just pick a job or 2 and be glad you have progressed to the point that you can do that.

Hurray for your increasing mobility...and remember the tortise...slow and steady wins the race.

I'm so glad that you are feeling well enough to do even one of those things per day! Kudos!!!!

On another note, I think your cats are WAYYYYY TOOOO CUTE! You always have such cute pictures of them! Samantha (my cat) never finds herself in really cute poses like the one of your black and white kitty in the laundry basket.....
