Once Again, It's Tuba Sunday!

It's good to know that we live in a neighborhood with rich long-standing traditions.

Once again, it's time for the annual celebration of  Tuba Sunday.  One family celebrates by hiring a brass band that starts playing at 7am. And everyone else lays in bed, wondering what the hell is going on.

You think I'm kidding?

It happened in 2013.

In 2012.

In 2011.

And in 2010.

My goodness, we've lived here a long time!

Why does no one track down the tuba family, with a gift in hand, perhaps some home-made rolls and honey, and state without animosity that you are glad they have this tradition, and would like to learn more about why they do it?

It's remarkably hard to pinpoint the source of tuba music. None of the neighbors I'm friendly with seem to know whose house the music comes from.

I have been reading the archives and I was guessing that tuba Sunday was the Sunday immediately preceding mardi gras. But this year, that will be march 2. So I got nothing. Somebody's birthday?

My theory is birthday. Robb thinks it's something catholic because it's obscure irritating and inconvenient.

I am a life-long Catholic and have never heard of any ritual involving tubas! Bells, maybe or trumpets. -Rose
