Movies for the Sick House?

...

Robb and I have been stuck at home with a ghastly respiratory ailment for far too long.  I had the particular bad luck of getting it on top of an existing case of inflamed sinuses, and am down with full-blown bronchitis.  We're both exhausted and pretty brain-dead.

And we're looking for movie suggestions.  We want something diverting and delightful, visually arresting, and clever, funny and well written.  We do not want anything grim or harrowing or stupid or sexist.  Given how sick we both are, were looking for something that's not too mentally taxing, without being idiotic or dumbed down.

So far, we've watched:

Safety Not Guaranteed.   Delightful, and unexpected.
Sweet Land.  Beautiful, but a bit too slow-moving for our cold-addled brains.
Princess Diaries.  Hated it. Vapid and illogical.  Infuriating regarding San Francisco geography.
Crossing Delancy.  Glad we saw it. A sweet odd little movie.
My Favorite Year.  So, so sweet.

So, with that in mind, what movies do you suggest? They should be available on either Netflix or Amazon Prime.

"84 Charing Cross Road" with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. Netflix doesn't have it streaming, but I don't know about Amazon.
Don't Panic!

If you don't mind subtitles there's a French one on netflix called The Women on the 6th Floor. It's basically a romantic comedy, but oh so French. I watched it a while back when I spent a day on the couch with some ailment or another.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Didn't think I'd like it (my husband rented it), but loved it.

That one, unfortunately, is not currently available for rental.

I've got another French flick for you - Romantics Anonymous. Available on netflix streaming. Now I'm going to park it on the couch with my ice pack and start Safety Not Guaranteed.

Anne of Green Gables? Princess Bride. Contact. Inception. The Other Side of Heaven. I've heard the Secret of Kells is great.

If you're well enough to read, Sarah Plain and Tall is a great one. Quick.

And I have to second the PeeWee's big adventure one. Too funny.

Hope you feel better soon. It's awful to be sick on top of sinus troubles.

I don't know if it helps you, but I've got a lot of similar medical troubles as far as breathing and sinuses go. For some reason, it helps to eat cold things. (Maybe it brings down the swelling? I don't know). Here's my own smoothie recipe I love:

Frozen Bananas (2-3)
Apple Juice

Put bananas in blender, fill with apple juice until nearly covers bananas. Blend well. (You may need to add a little more juice). This is the smoothie base. Then throw in whatever else you want. Frozen persimmons, frozen blueberries, raspberries, whatever.

And then there's always the tried and true, if not very unpleasant, saline up the nose trick.

Hope you feel better soon.

Also A Little Princess, The Truman Show (really liked that one), What About Bob, I liked the new True Grit. I haven't seen "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," but our friends really liked it. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The Emperor's New Groove is a funny one.

Those are all on Prime. And I've given you way too many. Feel better soon.

I always loved to watch Princess Bride when I was sick. I recently watched Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel. (We like Chris O'Dowd) You could always start watching a series...try the IT Crowd.

Room for One More with Betsy Drake and Cary Grant. It's available to rent at Amazon...I think that's what you mean by prime? Very sweet comedy based on a true story; about a family that takes in a few foster children. Touching and laugh out loud funny without too much thinking.

Another French one here. My husband recently watched The Intouchables (don't remember where I was). He liked it so much, he made me watch it, so he could watch it again. We enjoyed it.
