More Bees for our Neighbors

...

This evening, Robb and I brought another neighbor a hive of honeybees.  I'm really enjoying sharing our bees with local gardeners.

I've been having one of those weeks where much of what I say or do is badly misconstrued, and thus it was gratifying to do something that was simple, generous, and resulted in happiness.

Seriously, how does one refute the charge of being abrasive and combative, when one is merely a deeply shy introvert?  The rebuttal "I am NOT abrasive and combative,"  doesn't accomplish anything, does it?

We want to share healthy bees, so before we give away a hive, we give it a looking-over to make certain that everything is as it should be.

In the case of this colony, Robb realized that we had forgotten to put an inner cover between the top box of the hive, and the hive's  peaked roof.  The bees naturally fill all the space inside their home with honeycomb.  The bees unexpectedly had a bit of an attic, and they wasted no time, filling it with honeycomb.

Beekeepers prefer that the bees build comb that won't get destroyed during hive-inspections.  So before we loaded the bees into our car, we carefully cut away this excess honeycomb.

And yes, we were out driving -- once again -- with a car-full of honeybees.  What can I say?  It's possible to be both introverted and fearless at the same time.

You, my dear, are an awesomely courageous introvert. You go girl.

I saw some bee hives today, they were plain, brown and non-descript, kinda boring. I LOVE your bee hives, I think they're gorgeous!

I applaud you for getting into a car with bees..... I can say that I would NEVER knowingly do that!

And if I didn't have to actually have contact with the bees, I might have a beehive too, since I'm finding your stories so fun to read!
