Motivated to get well

...

I've been feeling really horrible, and took a couple of days off of work. I'll be back at work tomorrow, because the contractors plan to spend the day jack hammering. I managed to sleep through a lot of banging and sawing today, but don't think I can handle the jack hammers.

* * *

We had a bit of electrical work done last week, because when we bought the house, it was woefully underpowered. There weren't a whole heck of a lot of things to plug in, back in 1925. And, as far as we can tell, this house only had one upgrade, some time in the 1950s. We still had glass fuses, until last week.

Robb was resting while the electrician was working in our kitchen, and told me later that he overheard this man muttering "I hate you I hate you I hate you " over and over again. At one point the electrician plaintively and rhetorically asked "Just let this be the one thing that goes right today, okay?"

This all made a bit more sense when I found the tiny plastic screens that normally cover the holes in bottom of one of my orchids' pots, placed neatly next to the orchids. Poor guy must have dumped my plant in the sink, and not known how to re-assemble the bits.

Despite the suffering endured by this beleaguered electrician, I have nothing but good things to say about the work that the electricians did. Their work was immaculate.

There's something kind of adorable about the electrician, muttering to all the inanimate objects that were out to get him!

Hope you're feeling better.. seems like you can't escape the jackhammers, externaly OR internally. Boo!

Hm, the guys sounds a little psycho to me- I hope he wasnt sayinm that about all your ancient electrical wiring!

When we had moved into this house in 1966, it had no running water (but we had an outhouse!) we had no electricity either- My dad put it in back then, and it was only 3 years ago that all the old fraying cloth covered wiring (wrapped at the splice ends with white medical tape) was removed and updated. WHEW! It was easier to sleep in the house knowing all that dangertous stuff was gone.

I have a big old glass jar that we found in the barn- into it goes bits and peices of things we found (and still find) from inside the house and yard. An really thin old horse shoe, bits of ancient glass fuses, children's marbles, clothing buttons made from bits of hand chipped oyster shell, a bit of the origonal sand and lime wall with original wallpaper on it- etc. Even an arrowhead! It is a sort of ad-hoc historical collection of things that date the house. Try doing this selectively, and you will have yourself a nice collection of house memorabelia (spelling).

Was there anything built on the site before your house was built? Things from the past have a way of rising to the surface and exposing themselves to examination over time. Maybe your jackhammer guys will find something you will like to keep- If you find any of them thar missing Civil War gold bars- cut me in for a bit, ok? Gold is at $1,030 an ounce now.

Awww poor guy. If it makes you feel any better, my 1943 apartment has glass fuses. I'm not responsible for them, really, but hey. It's exciting!

(stalker ^ ^ ^)

Anyway, just wanted to say we have an old house, too, along with a cardboard box of stuff from under the kitchen. Includes coins, jewelry, buttons, tins, bottles, axe heads, newspaper from 1884...and the stays and buttonstrips for about 15 corsets! I'd like to know what was going on in this house 100 years ago that they disposed of corsets under the kitchen! Hmm...

Gotta love old houses,

Hey Lisa, I just had an idea- why dont you stay close to the jackhammer guy, and all the vibrations may knock loose and drain away the crap in your sinus cavity?

If the jackhammer doesn't work, come get aquainted with my posthole digger,(it might do the same thing) as we are fencing in some of our property- by the way, I'm more than curious about 4 acres of farmland that went for sale- $63,000- up the road from us. If the new fixer-upper owners can't make a go of it (the house is full of aspestos and the barn is tilting WAY to the side) I'm going to bid on it when they put it up for sale again.

Also, the stalker dude posting above was made by a guy who I met DECADES ago- late 1980's, early 1990's for crap's sake- who needs to get over himself- DECADES AGO- get it? I can see he perhaps consulted a DICTIONARY and was fractionally more SOBER this time- but it's still harassment.

Kudos to Lisa and Robb for NOT being psycho like that, no matter how you think life pushes you guys to the brink!

Annalisa (Who is wondering if stalker dude realizes his online rants at(bar-closing time, no less) are embarassing, unprofessional and makes me wonder why you guys don't have a restraining order out on him. His posts most definately and LEGALLY fall under the stalker and harassment catagory- you do realize this, Michael? This will get you fired, buddy. Does he even HAVE a job? If he does continue to post, I get a good laugh out of it anyway. I thought it was really bad online performance art at first!

Now I'm sorry I got here to late to read the deleted post :-)

I did some of the rewiring in my 1920s bungalow. That old wire is stiff as anything. Just try bending it out of the way when you're messing with switches and you too will be talking to yourself.
