My excellent sister and her flock of urban chickens will be featured on ABC Nightline tonight.

cooool! i wish i had chickens here. i have been talking about all the fresh eggs and snail-eating pets for years now. i was thinking a coop built like a gilt pagoda, sort of a hybrid between a coop and a garden folly.

I'm looking forward to seeing the broadcast. Didn't she say once that her chickens were illegal? Isn't a story featuring her flock on tv going to let the "chicken out of the bag" so to speak?

I had though also about having a small bunch of birds live in a hut above our compost structure. Also, a small hive of bees would be just the thing behind our barn. But so far nothing has happened since time has flown by "in chicken speak" and we are too busy to start on these projects. Maybe watching your sister on tv will inspire me to move my tailfeathers!

Urban hens are legal in many areas, including Brooklyn and Oakland.

Roosters are another story.
