Nesting Season

...

I finally had a day to myself. After briefly stopping at work, to check in with the progress of the current show, I got to go cycling with Robb. We packed up the bikes, and headed out to Alameda for some sunshine and wind.

The egrets are nesting on Bay Farm Island, again! These normally elegant birds are behaving in a totally undignified manner. It's difficult to tell if what we're seeing is fighting or nookie, but it certainly is a spectacle. And the noise! Robb and I never stop finding humor in these birds' cries of "ob-glob-glob" and what sounds weirdly like "hello" and "I love Robb."

We won't dwell on the part where I was crapped on by egrets. Frankly, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

It's cold and rainy here, so no bird watching for us. Lots of reading, where I found out about this site- www.birdingpal.org.

You can hook up with birders all over the US to look at the local birds while traveling.

Cool,eh?

By the way, getting crapped by birds is good luck.

Bought time, don't cha think?

Ps- I just finished reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and really wanna chop something's head off.

I want to write my own book now- something along the lines of The Good News Bible and Zombies, or The US Constitution and Zombies, etc, etc.

This is the MOST gorgeous photo!
BTW for egg blowing- one need not have desire for an omelette, if one is a baker. You can always bake & freeze dozens of muffins and quick breads!
We use blown eggs to make traditional Mexican "cascares". Make the hole on the bottom pretty big, because you'll be filling it with confetti. Those little paper circles from a three hole punch are perfect confetti- and are recycled!

After filling (via a paper cone) close up the hole with a bit of tissue and white glue.
On Easter, sneak up on an unsuspecting person and whack em on the head with an egg. Fun!
