Happy Feet

Robb an I went shoe-shopping yesterday. This is always in interesting experience, because Robb suffers from both numbness and hyper-sensitivity in his feet. The wrong shoe (or the wrong fit) will send Robb's legs into painful wracking spasms.

And then there's the fact that Robb can't really feel if the shoe fits properly. We tend to shop at stores with salespeople who don't get flummoxed when we ask them to tell us if Robb's shoes fit. They really do know better than we do.

For whatever reason, we hadn't tossed out the shoes Robb owned before the accident that used to fit, but now cause instant spasticity. The Goodwill got a big box-full of shoes, yesterday.

I bought a pair of Earth shoes that look suspiciously like half the shoes I already own. I really like the "negative heel" configuration, and I think that Robb might benefit from this style of shoes. He still cannot support his own weight on his toes (except in the swimming pool!) and so perhaps a shoe that puts extra weight on the heel by design might be beneficial.

Now, we need to find a local store that carries Earth shoes for men.

Tell me more about the Earth Shoes - I'm thinking the "negative heel" might be just the thing to reprogram Liam's habit of walking on lyon his toes and help automatically stretch out his heel chord during the day....

How do you guys manage to do so much in one weekend?! Cleaning AND delivering to Goodwill AND birdwatching?! You are wonders! Really....so far we've managed to clean out ONE closet, kind of , sort of, and I have two loads of laundry done , but not folded and still in the basement. I won't tell you what my kitchen looks like...

I don't see that Earth shoe makes kids' sizes.

There are definitely inserts for toe-walkers. I had 'em when I was little.

I wasn't a huge fan of Earth shoes and I had two pairs at one point. I wore them for a while but in the long run I opted not to buy them after those pairs wore out. That's just me though. I have really flat feet, I don't know if that makes any difference. :D

I've had those exact shoes for about 6 months and love them. Got them at Scott's in Alameda, don't know if they carry men's...

I had Earth shoes and boots in the 70's, and bought 2 pairs in the past year. I definitely stand straighter and the calves to get a great workout. The hiking boots lack much tread, but they're great for working outside the house.

Gwen -- I got my shoes at Scott's in Alameda, too. They used to carry Earth shoes for men, but stopped because they weren't selling.

They suggested the new Whole Foods in Oakland, of all places.

I have super-high arches, and so far I'm enjoying these shoes.

i love earth shoes! i only have one pair, and they're strappy sailing shoes, but i actually take off my work shoes at the end of the day and put on the earth shoes rather than walk around in my socks. love 'em. i guess buying online is not really an option for Robb. bummer. The Whole Foods in the Inner Harbor carries them sometimes, but occasionally switches them out for baby clothes, and never has a great selection. Maybe you'll have better luck.

There's a Whole Foods at the Inner Harbor? Wow. When I worked there, I had so much trouble finding anything to eat that wasn't fudge of fried.

have you looked at the MBT shoes? They helped my wife with her back pain greatly. Obviously Rob's case is different but you never know what might help -
