Comfort Zone
...
All during our recent trip, I was thinking of the phrase "leaving your comfort zone." The obvious joke is there: going to a place where you are in discomfort. And, yes, there was a bit of that. But for me the real value of this trip was the opportunity to push my limits, find new limits and then push those, too.
Sixteen months ago, on our last trip to the Northwest, it would have been unthinkable for me to go on an all day outing, negotiate very rugged shoreline terrain for a couple of hours, get up the next day and do it again. Not to mention following that up with a two hour kayaking trip, a wine tasting and dinner–– all in one day.
Turns out I can push myself a lot harder than I thought. Oh, I pay the price later but even that's not as bad as I had imagined.
For the moment, it's nice to settle into a new comfort zone knowing I won't be staying long.

BTW-I will be heading your way in August (3-7th). I'll be in Palo Alto at Stanford attending an incredible seminar on the American West. Some other teachers from Pat-Med will be attending as well (Tom Maxwell is one of them-not sure if you remember him?). I'm not sure of our 'down time' as of yet, but I'd love to figure out if we can meet for a drink or some tofu or something. :) Let me know... I grabbed your cell phone numbers-I'll text you with mine (do you have texting?). Hope to see you soon,
Syndee

Please do give us a call or txt when you get out here. We'd love to see you.
Whenever I feel like I am in a rut, I check this blog. You guys focus on progress and milestones and it helps me to remember to do that in my own life.
I wish you many more comfort zones, each one a little farther along than the last.
