Bikes and Birds, that's all we ever write about...

...

Robb and I made a pact to go cycling together, not just on weekends, but also during the week. So, he took it easy yesterday, and after work we went for an eight-mile ride.

Usually, Robb and I ride at a similar pace, but last night I kept having to circle back for him.

We couldn't decide if it was because by five-thirty, Robb has run out of steam for the day, or because I wasn't carrying my usual absurdly-heavy basket. (Contents: two water bottles, camera with two lenses, one huge, binoculars, bird identification book, fruit, jackets, et cetera, et cetera.)

If we go out cycling again in the evening, we agreed that we would go to a loop trail, and I would go around twice as many times as Robb. Maintaining his slow pace really doesn't give me any exercise at all.

(These were birds from the past weekend. Above is a Turkey Vulture, and below is an American Wigeon. The wigeon picture is pretty lousy, but he was too cute not to share!)

Don't know if you like other wheeled methods of transport, but if you like skating/roller blading, that might be something you could do alongside Robb's slower evening bike pace and still get a great amount of excersize...

If I tried rollerblading, we would have two member of your family recovering from spinal cord injuries.

I say just hook a cart to Robb's bike and charge for rides! That way you get an income and Robb builds up his endurance levels! But don't give rides to rude people, they tend to throw things at the bike rider.

This was one of the ways I put myself through college, that, and pole dancing. NOT!!!!
