The Yard

And now, for your viewing pleasure, a comedy in two inexplicable acts:

We have to admit that this was funnier when it had a more ad hoc appearance. Now that they've sewed together all that tarp, there isn't as much Comedy Value as the the Collage of Random Bedding and Lawn Furniture.
Sweet--that will certainly keep the mystery animals (racoons?) off their grass. Wonderful little film, as well.

why don't you ask them why they are doing it? I am dying to know!
I could never just let that keep happening without an explanation....

The fact is that this family has been entirely anti-social, and does not even respond when we say "hello" to them on the sidewalk.

Since we can't figure a way of *politely* asking "what the &#*$@#&$ are y'all doing back there?" we're just enjoying the mystery.

We suspect that finding out the truth would be a horrible let-down.

Thanks for the pics. After doing some google research, I am still thoroughly confused as to why they are doing this. The only evidence I have found to support covering the lawn is to keep moisture in for the first two weeks...However, if they were covering it during the day, they would most definitely be trying to kill their lawn--creating a prairie! The search continues...

Hmm...that theory might work in other parts of the country, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area our nights are cool and damp.

Is that a large black dog sitting just beyond the grass's edge? If so, I'd worry more about what damage it could do. Pity the poor raccoon or opossum that tries to sneak past that sleeping beastie.

It looks to me more like their own personal aids quilt memorial event.

Either that, or they are trying to keep something hidden from prying eyes. Hm, mini-pot plants growing, perhaps?

Thanks for the sketchfu. I now have a summer addiction to look forward to. You can check out my first attempt: #12356. Can't wait to play some more.

Ahhh... but did you try and film surreptitiously ?

Make it blatant and you might force a conversation, an answer, or something even more existential.

Hi Lisa--thanks for commenting on my picture. I've made about 5 more since then. Yep...addictive...still haven't put on the laundry.

My six year old says maybe they are trying to keep animal poop off of their grass...good theory. All of those animlas that try to sneak in the yard and poop at night were keeping Grandma awake. Now she can sleep in peace: )
