. . .

I try to maintain a really positive tone on this blog, and emphasize all of the things that are going well, but the truth of the matter is that a lot of things aren't going well, and this whole thing is difficult and tedious and terrifying.

We have no idea how much of a recovery Robb is going to make, or for how long he is likely to see improvement. We have no idea if he will be able to regain enough functionality to return to work.

I think the blog is particularly misleading in this regard. We show all of the fun days, when everything is working out well. But we skim over the ratio of Good Hours to Bad Hours and the fact that any good day usually has to be paid for with a day of unpleasant physical discomfort.

I also don't tend to write about all the things that we used to do, that we just can't anymore. We can't have a normal social life, because we never know which days are going to be Good Days. We can't plan for the future. We can't travel. We can't keep our house clean. My creative energies are totally scattered. Life is pretty much of a mess.

Clean houses are a sign of insanity. Thus I'm very sane. Trust me on this one. I can't find the floor for all the sanity I've spewed everywhere. I've got a couple of bags of sanity by the door right now, waiting for me to take them out.

Also, a day of fun paid off with a day or two of rest is much better than a week of rest. As long as Robb doesn't have any doctor telling him he is completely bed ridden for the rest of his life, he's a winner. Put this very serious injury in perspective, ok? You guys are doing very well. Stop worrying.

As I understand it, Robb is still healing as well as trying to get on with his life. I had been sick for a full year and a half, and that was just for an intestinal problem. Consider this then pet your cats for us. Speaking of cats...

I'm in real trouble here- our kitten has learned how to jump on the kitchen counter- as none of our other cats have ever discovered how to do this, I have no idea how to stop this behavior.

You guys have what, 2 cats? How do you keep your cats out of your counter food? Or do you have to hide it all away? Or have you raised all your kitchen counters by 3 feet in height? Are you guys armed with tasers when the cats leap onto tables? I am really starting to worry about the cat jumping onto a hot stove. Of, course, that might be what cures her....

Everything takes time, wether training a cat or healing from an injury- be glad your not in NY needing to shovel out from under 10 feet of snowpack just to get a quart of frozen milk.

Catch you later- Annalisa

Lisa & Robb - while you've been discrete with sharing the bad days; you both have shown bravery beyond words. Your blog has not only inspired us but we're sure many others as well.

Know that the rest of the letterboxing community is hoping that there is a full recovery for Robb. He's come so far already. Keep positive and hopefull. We're all behind you both - this has been quite a journey for us all.

Hugs to you both and tell the cat to quit sticking its tongue out at you. That's rude... ;-)

My dad used to say, when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. Sometimes that's all you can do.

I think that most people know to read between the lines of your usual posts. It's been so amazing to see how far Robb has come since the accident. You both are inspirational, and who cares if you have dust bunnies, or dust gorillas, or whatever?

Big hugs from "back east",
Martha

Re: Sunday 2/11 Post: Should we assume, unless it is obvious, that any particular post is the narrative and sentiments of Lisa, not Robb? Sometimes it is obvious, other times not so.

I am reminded of a note you quoted on the blog just about a year ago from EJ and Dave:

everything will be okay in the end.

if it's not okay,

it's not the end.

Much love from the chilly and soon to be snowy east coast -

Hi there,

I'm zeroing in on the clean house issue. I've discovered over the years that the more cluttered my surroundings, the less focused and less calm I become (and I don't mean sparkly neat-as-a-pin clean, just a reasonable level of order and non-clutteredness). I occasionally just hire someone to spend a few hours helping me catch up, does wonders for my overall quality of life.

Note to whoever was dealing with the kitten on the counter - Double sided tape. Stripe the counter with it. After landing on that a couple times, most cats decide the counter (or table) isn't that fun a place to be after all.

hey there Leabhar - I'm going to try the double sided tape with the kitten, I really had no idea what I was gonna do- I'm really sick of yelling.

Thanks!

Annalisa
