yet another trip to the Emergency Room

One of the great pleasures of my job is working with interns. I've been really lucky, and have worked with some truly creative artists. My current intern, Erin is a particular delight. She's bright, talented, funny, and has seemingly boundless good spirits.

Erin has taken to life in California like the proverbial fish to water. She has been exploring San Francisco's art galleries, taking weekend trips to Los Angeles, expanding her culinary horizons, and riding her new bike all over the place. (She timed one bike trip so that she could be in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge in time for the sunset.)

And this morning, she was hit by a car, while biking to work.

She was riding along on a main street, and a man coasted through his stop sign and drove right into her. Erin was thrown to the ground, and got pretty banged up. She must have charmed the police officer who made the report (and ticketed the man who hit her), because he tossed her bike and helmet in the trunk of his cruiser and accompanied Erin's ambulance to the hospital. I arrived at the hospital about the time that Erin did, retrieved her bike from the police officer, and then met her in the examination room.

I'm unwittingly becoming quite the little expert on the emergency rooms of the East Bay, and I have to say that Alta Bates did a very nice job. Erin was quickly examined, cleaned up, and sent on her way. She was very lucky, and is home now, nursing her scrapes, and watching her bruises turn interesting colors. I know she's going to be one sore girlie tomorrow.

I'm not sure which I found more charming, the fact that when I met her in the examination room, Erin was wearing a hospital gown and paint-covered legs. Or while she was wincing through the cleaning of her wounds, she kept assuring the nurse that she wasn't making a horrible face because she disliked him.

So, if anyone has any extra healing energy to send out, you couldn't send it to a sweeter intern than Erin.

if Erin soaks in a hot bathtub with a couple of tablespoons ginger in it, the soreness in her muscles wil be reduced by a ton! only thing is, ginger also sweats out body toxins, so you have to sip at a glas of cold watere or ice tea or something of the sort to avoid becoming dehydrated while in the tub.

I will be praying and sending positive white light toward Erin.

What a blessing she was not more seriously hurt!

Glad to hear that the cops got the guy who hit her, mine had sped up and took off after hitting me. Hope she takes it easy after all this, and I REALLY hope she was wearing a helmet, because my biggest injury was a concussion when I was hit.

Well, if crap has to have a portal into an area, it seems to pick on yours for awhile. Maybe you can try calling yourself by a different name for a bit to make sure it misses you.

A friend of a friend went to Mexico and I asked them for milagros to make a shrine for you guys. She came back empty handed, but I'm sure to make some sort of healing, good-vibe reciving/radiating icon for you guys. Maybe a structure that employs gods from all over the world. I'll try to keep it under 4 feet tall. Then you can mount it to your car, right?

I dont know how to mount a four-foot tall one on a bike for your friend. Maybe duct tape.....

Oh man, all my good thoughts to Erin. It's amazing how inattentive drivers can be, sometimes they bump a curb or someone's bumper, sometimes they "bump" a cyclist or pedestrian, which can result in some pretty major injury. I've had a bunch of close calls myself. It's not your fault Erin, not even a little bit, so get back on that bike and ride! Good thing you can pay attention even if the other folks in traffic don't!

My FIRST thought was... THANK GOD ITS NOT ROBB OR LISA THIS TIME!!!

On second thought... how awful for Erin... so I am just sending her my very best healing thoughts.

I was pretty worried this would be about one of you when I read the headline, and was mightily relieved to discover it was not! Healing thoughts for Erin, and as always, happy thoughts to you two!

It's always seemed so interesting to me that people's lives seem to go in cycles where you'll have a year of not a lot of note happening, and then you'll have a year where it seems like the whole universe is out to get you. I'm glad at least that it appears that no major injuries resulted this time, at least in physiological terms--I imagine that being hit by a car might lend itself to a few bad dreams!

I'm so sorry you and yours seem to be in the "hit zone," and I'm sending prayers and good energy your way. As long as you're in the "hit zone" anyway, may you be "hit" with a huge load of blessed events instead of these irritating and injurious ones!
