When I lived in Rutland VT one of the biggest yearly events was the Haloween parade. One year there was a bear in the city, it had been wandering for a few days prior to halloween. On the day of the parade it was holed up in a tree less than 1/2 a mile from the parade route and the city officials decided to kill it rather than tranquilize and relocate.
