A Way of Visualizing

...

On Wednesday, a container ship ran into the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge, tore a hole in its hull, and spilled 58,000 gallons of fuel oil into the San Francisco Bay.

But how does one understand what this means?

Robb figured that if you put the oil into one-gallon paint cans, and stacked them one on top of another, the stack of cans would be just under seven miles tall.

Now think about this: It only takes a glob of oil the size of a dime to kill a bird.

Hey here, I heard on TV today that there was a call for volunteers to help with the oil spills. I assume thats what has been monopolizing your news as well.

It made the national news here tonight that Arnold is declaring the bay and waterways a disaster area. Hopefuly that will get you guys some funding to clean up the area a bit faster.
