Saturday

This morning, I spent my time calling every person involved in the process of transferring Robb to a rehabilitation facility. This is proving to be a bit of a challenge. The hospital plans to tranfer Robb on Monday, but we have not been able to pick a rehab facility. And because this is the weekend, none of the people who are involved in this process are in their offices.

There certainly will be a lot of voicemail messages from me for people to listen to, first thing Monday morning! I'm determined that Robb will be placed in the best facility possible.

Treatment

Robb saw members of his surgical team throughout the day. Although we understood that Highland Hospital only offered physical therapy Monday through Friday, Robb had another session with the wonderful therapist, Deborah. This woman is a ray of sunshine in our day. Robb is already seeing small but notable improvements in sensation and mobility.

It seems to me that now that Robb is in a less critical condition, he is being allowed more time to himself. Nurses are still available at all times, and still offer great service, but they aren't coming in every forty-five minutes around the clock. I trust this means that he will be able to be quiet and rest.

Robb's room mate is also a spinal case. He is very quiet, and tends to speak Portugese (???) on the phone and with his visitors. I've noticed that it is much easier to "tune out" conversation when it is in a language that you don't speak.

Friends

Rachel brought an amazing lunch of vegetarian Italian subs, and treats. I was at home when she stopped by, but she and Robb had a very nice visit.

Gina and Robert sent a beautiful flower arrangement. Our neighbors in the apartment building bought us two stunning orchid plants. The hospital room is like some kind of magical jungle, full of exotic blooms.

Ashley still hasn't missed a day, and came by around dinner time. Her visits are wonderful... full of calming, healing good spirits.

EJ and Dave were on dinner duty, and brought vegetarian Thai food, and some fun diversions. It was so nice to see both of them.

I printed out a number of the kind emails that people have sent, and was reading Annalisa's message to Robb, and actually had to stop because he was laughing so hard that it hurt. Julia's notes were also too funny to handle.

I take this as a good sign.

The monkey, and the following quote are from EJ and Dave:

everything will be okay in the end.

if it's not okay,

it's not the end.
