There are plenty of drones about this time of year, and I'm sure your new Queen(s) (and ours) will be just fine. I love how beautifully white the new wax is on your combs. We're going to need to get back into all of our hives soon and see how the bees are doing after splitting and swarming. Entrance activity is looking very promising on a few, but I just love how the bees keep us on our toes, and always guessing ;)Curbstone Valley Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06714297348566721344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21900544.post-57045761947654727402012-05-01T08:32:21.609-07:002012-05-01T08:32:21.609-07:00Lovely pictures; lucky friend. I tend to trust the bees, because they understand the situation better than I do. All of my bees are from local swarms. I prefer hardy "mutt" bees.

Also, I hate the thought of killing queen bees. It just doesn't seem right.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03932975112078606231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21900544.post-56414193359420603902012-05-01T03:51:26.717-07:002012-05-01T03:51:26.717-07:00Oh no! I'm always scared I'm going to accidentally kill mine.

Do you have the contact details of anyone who can supply you with another mated Queen? I've heard that Queens coming from emergency cells oft times are poor producers.

And I can't believe how yellow your bees are. Mine are nearly all black with just three yellow stripes.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03861108457109878599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21900544.post-90603617113818206272012-04-30T23:02:26.054-07:002012-04-30T23:02:26.054-07:00I am truely amazed at how much you have leaned abo...I am truely amazed at how much you have leaned about bees in such a short amount of time! My Robert and I tried to keep bees about 8 years ago or so. Just one hive; it was successful for two years. Then? No bees. Then we adopted two kids and had no time for bees! :)

I am greatly encouraged by your efforts and hope to try again one day!

~Traveling Garden GnomeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
