I'd imagine the former would distribute their spores absolutely everywhere on a dry day, but might be less reliable in the rain (and any viable offspring would then compete with the parent shroom for resources) but then again, it has probably developed in a specific manner related to California's quite predictable rain patterns. But one that dries out and splits would still be able to distribute spores on the breeze, it just wouldn't give them that sudden puff to get going. Either way, how interesting.Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17113190330892549289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21900544.post-28686791742751976392011-07-03T18:47:10.254-07:002011-07-03T18:47:10.254-07:00Awesome, and festive too. We have a puff ball type here (Lycoperdon umbrinum), but all it gets is a little hole in the top. I love how these burst open.Curbstone Valley Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06714297348566721344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21900544.post-12169283109211455242011-07-03T16:50:31.407-07:002011-07-03T16:50:31.407-07:00C'mon over!
